The Mahindra Thar OG is more than a cosmetic facelift. Launched at Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), the updated 3-door Thar gets changes to its platform, suspension, steering, engines, safety equipment, styling and interior.
Inside, there is new Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, a rear-seat armrest with cup holders and a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The ZXT also gets a wireless charger.
Mahindra Thar OG therefore brings substantial mechanical and feature changes while retaining the familiar 3-door off-road SUV design.
New Platform and Suspension
One of the biggest changes is the new M_Glyde 4G platform, also used by the Thar Roxx. Mahindra says it offers higher structural stiffness. The Thar OG also gets a new rear Pentalink suspension with a Watts Link. The top ZXT variant gets frequency-dependent damping, called DAVINCI dampers, aimed at improving ride comfort.Electric Power Steering
The old hydraulic steering has been replaced by electric power steering (EPS). This should make the Thar easier to handle during parking and low-speed driving. Mahindra also claims improved NVH levels over the previous model.More Powerful Engines
The 2.2-litre diesel now produces 152hp and 330Nm, up by 18hp and 30Nm. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol makes 162hp and 330Nm, gaining 10hp and up to 30Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel continues with 119hp and 300Nm.Better Off-Road Hardware
The Thar OG introduces an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) for the rear axle on selected 4WD variants. It also gets dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow modes, improving traction on different surfaces.Styling and Interior Updates
Thar facelift gets a redesigned grille, new LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with cornering function and revised bumpers. Safety Gets a Major Upgrade
The top ZXT can be equipped with six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, TPMS and a rear camera.
