Ola And Uber Rival Green SM Set To Launch Electric Cab Service In India

Vietnam-based company Green SM is all set to begin operations in India on June 5, 2026. The company is backed by Vingroup, one of Vietnam’s largest business groups and the parent company of electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast. Green SM will initially start its services in the Delhi-NCR region and plans to expand to other major cities in the future.

The new cab service will compete with popular ride-hailing platforms such as Ola and Uber. However, Green SM will follow a different business model. Unlike Ola and Uber, which allow drivers to use vehicles from different brands, Green SM will operate only with VinFast electric vehicles.

One of the first vehicles expected to join the Green SM fleet is the Limo Green electric MPV. This model is based on the VinFast VF MPV 7 and is designed specifically for commercial and fleet operations. The Limo Green will use a 60.13kWh battery pack and is expected to offer a driving range of up to 517km on a single charge, according to ARAI certification figures. The electric motor produces 204hp of power and 280Nm of torque.

According to VinFast India CEO Tapan Kumar Ghosh, the fleet-focused Limo Green will have a different identity from the standard VF MPV 7. It will feature unique badges and logos and will come with fewer premium features to keep operating costs lower. Recent sightings of the vehicle on Indian roads showed it wearing a bright cyan paint scheme, Green SM branding, and steel wheels with wheel covers.

The Limo Green is expected to offer a seven-seat layout and a practical all-black interior. This setup is designed to provide durability and comfort for daily taxi operations. In comparison, the regular VF MPV 7 uses a more premium brown-and-black cabin theme.

Green SM may also add the VinFast VF5 electric hatchback to its fleet in the future. The compact EV is currently being considered for launch in India and could become a popular choice for city-based ride-hailing services.

The launch of Green SM marks another step forward for electric mobility in India. With an all-electric fleet and support from VinFast, the company aims to provide eco-friendly transportation while increasing competition in the growing ride-hailing market.
