India’s electric passenger vehicle market continued its rapid growth in July 2026, with retail EV sales crossing the 30,000-unit milestone for the second month in a row. According to Vahan registration data, a total of 32,609 electric cars and SUVs were sold during the month, representing an impressive 83 percent year-on-year growth compared to 17,823 units sold in July 2025.
Although sales were slightly lower than the record 33,307 units registered in June 2026, the overall momentum remains strong as automakers continue expanding their EV portfolios and charging infrastructure across the country.
This was also Tata’s second consecutive month of selling more than 12,000 EVs, highlighting the company’s dominance despite increasing competition.
Mahindra has now crossed the 7,000-unit monthly sales mark for two consecutive months, strengthening its position in the premium EV segment.
However, MG’s market share dropped significantly from 33 percent a year ago to around 16 percent as rivals expanded their offerings.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese automaker VinFast achieved its best-ever performance in India, selling 1,478 EVs and securing a 4 percent market share. The VF Limo Green remains the company’s top-selling model.
Hyundai recorded 565 EV sales, while Kia India sold 464 units, posting an impressive 614 percent growth over July 2025 thanks to the recently launched Carens Clavis EV.
Other manufacturers included BMW (367 units), Mercedes-Benz (163 units), Toyota (123 units), and Tesla (115 units).
BMW India remained the segment leader with 367 units, capturing over half of the luxury EV market. Mercedes-Benz followed with 163 units, while Tesla India recorded its best-ever monthly performance with 115 Model Y deliveries after a significant price reduction.
Tesla’s market share surged to 16 percent in the luxury EV segment, making it one of the fastest-growing premium EV brands in the country.

Tata Motors Maintains Leadership
Tata Motors retained its position as India’s largest EV manufacturer with its highest-ever monthly sales of 13,578 units, marking a massive 102 percent growth over July 2025. The company’s EV market share rose to 42 percent, helped by strong demand for the Nexon EV, Punch EV, Curvv EV, and the recently launched Sierra EV.This was also Tata’s second consecutive month of selling more than 12,000 EVs, highlighting the company’s dominance despite increasing competition.
Mahindra Continues Strong Growth
Mahindra remained firmly in second place, selling 7,677 electric SUVs in July, up 125 percent year-on-year. The company’s market share climbed to 22 percent, supported by strong demand for the BE 6, XEV 9e, and the newly introduced three-row XEV 9S electric SUV.Mahindra has now crossed the 7,000-unit monthly sales mark for two consecutive months, strengthening its position in the premium EV segment.
MG Holds Third Spot
JSW MG Motor India sold 5,642 EVs in July. While the figure was slightly lower than both June 2026 and July 2025, MG remained India’s third-largest EV manufacturer. The popular Windsor EV continued to drive the majority of the brand’s electric vehicle sales.However, MG’s market share dropped significantly from 33 percent a year ago to around 16 percent as rivals expanded their offerings.
Maruti Suzuki and VinFast Gain Momentum
Maruti Suzuki recorded 1,590 sales of the e-Vitara, maintaining four-digit monthly volumes for the fifth consecutive month. Production constraints are expected to ease as the company ramps up manufacturing at its Gujarat facility.Meanwhile, Vietnamese automaker VinFast achieved its best-ever performance in India, selling 1,478 EVs and securing a 4 percent market share.
