E20 Petrol Reduce Mileage? Minister of Petroleum Answered

Small Mileage Drop, But Better Performance

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, has responded to concerns about E20 petrol and its effect on vehicles. Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, he said E20 fuel may cause a slight drop in mileage, but the impact is very small.

E20 Petrol Reduce Mileage

E20 petrol is made with 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent regular petrol. The government is promoting it to reduce fuel imports and lower pollution levels in the country.

Puri said people should not panic over mileage concerns because many other factors also affect fuel efficiency.

E20 Fuel Can Improve Acceleration

The minister said ethanol-blended petrol has some benefits too. According to him, E20 can improve acceleration and reduce engine knocking, which makes driving smoother.

He also pointed out that ethanol is used in racing cars because it helps improve performance. This means while drivers may lose a little mileage, they can also get better throttle response and engine performance.

Puri said much of the criticism on social media is based on myths and incomplete information.

No Insurance Issue With E20 Petrol

Another major concern among car owners is whether insurance claims can be rejected for using E20 fuel. Puri strongly denied these rumours.

He said insurance companies have already clarified that there is no issue with coverage if a vehicle uses E20 petrol. This means owners do not have to worry about losing insurance benefits because of ethanol-blended fuel.

The minister said such false information creates unnecessary fear among vehicle owners.

Higher Ethanol Blends Need Proper Testing

Puri also spoke about future plans for higher ethanol blends like E25 and E30. He said the government will only move towards higher blends after proper testing and approval.

India has already set fuel standards for blends up to 30 percent ethanol. However, the government clarified that this does not mean these fuels will be launched immediately.

The minister added that India’s future mobility will include many options like electric vehicles, hybrid cars, CNG vehicles, and biofuel-powered vehicles.

He said all technologies will work together to reduce pollution and improve energy security.

His statement comes at a time when many vehicle owners are still questioning how E20 fuel affects mileage, performance, and long-term engine health.
