Geely Auto Group has introduced a new electric drive system that promises impressive efficiency and a more compact design. Called the 16-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive, the new unit combines several key electric vehicle components into a single package, helping improve performance while reducing weight and complexity. 
According to Geely, the new drive unit achieves 93.8 percent efficiency under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). The technology will make its debut in the upcoming Geely Galaxy TT, a new electric sport sedan.
The company says the system combines major hardware components such as the electric motor, motor controller, reducer, and other key parts into one compact unit. In addition, it uses four intelligent software systems for energy management, charging management, motion control, and health monitoring.
One of the biggest advantages of the new design is its simplicity. Geely claims the system removes more than 180 unnecessary parts, helping reduce manufacturing complexity. The entire unit weighs just 75 kg (165 pounds) and measures only 12.8 inches tall.
The compact size also creates more usable space inside the vehicle. Geely says the Galaxy TT gains around one extra cubic foot of trunk space thanks to the smaller drive unit. The company has also reduced high-voltage wiring by 30 percent and low-voltage wiring by 15 percent.
The Geely Galaxy TT is a large electric sedan that measures nearly 197 inches long and competes in size with models such as the Porsche Taycan and BMW 5 Series. Buyers will have a choice of two powertrains. The rear-wheel-drive version produces 329 horsepower, while the all-wheel-drive version delivers 570 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
